Observations:
March 2017 – With Spokane missing the WHL playoffs, Elynuik signed an amateur tryout with the AHL's Charlotte Checkers for the remainder of the season. Coming off a breakout season where he posted 73 points in 64 games for the Chiefs, Elynuik will face a bigger test in the AHL as a 19 year-old. He is eligible to return to Spokane next season if the Canes don't sign him to an entry-level contract this summer. Kevin LeBlanc
December 2016 – Elyniuk has had an offensive breakout this season, as he is currently just eight points shy of his career high of 44 from 2015-16. His 36 points have come in just 28 games, increasing his points-per-game rate from .79 a year ago, to 1.29 this season. The lanky pivot centers Spokane’s (WHL) top line alongside 2017 potential first round draft pick Kailer Yamamoto. He will need time to develop, but it’s good to see a potentially higher offensive ceiling. Kevin LeBlanc
June 2016 – The Hurricanes selected Elynuik with their second of three third round picks in this years draft. He is a raw prospect with many of the physical tools you look for in a middle-six center. Kevin LeBlanc
Middle-six center with playmaking ability who will continue to develop over the next few years.
