Observations:
January 2017 – After 41 games at the NHL level last season where Di Giuseppe posted 17 points and 113 hits, he has not been able to stick with the Hurricanes this season. He has been up and down between Carolina and Charlotte all year, spending 26 games in the AHL and 18 in the NHL. He has been hindered by Derek Ryan and Brock McGinn's solid performances for the Hurricanes, but the 23-year-old Di Giuseppe should be the first call-up from Charlotte if a roster player enters a prolonged slump or goes down with injury. Kevin LeBlanc
December 2015 – Di Giuseppe earned a call-up to the Carolina Hurricanes on December 4th after a strong start to the season in Charlotte. After being held off the score sheet in his first two NHL contests, Di Giuseppe buried his first NHL goal from the top of the circles in a 6-5 loss to the Dallas Stars on December 8th. Kevin LeBlanc
October 2015 – Di Guiseppe had a positive start to his professional career with a 30-point campaign in 2014-15 which was good for fourth on the offensively strapped Checkers. Through four games this season, he has produced five points and a team high 16 shots. If the former Michigan Wolverine can build on his hot start, he could be in line for a breakout season from an offensive perspective. Kevin LeBlanc
October 2014- Another training camp and another unsuccesful attempt to make the final roster. Di Giuseppe has the talent and ability to make the NHL but his hesitation in the corners and indecisive play at times, holds him back from opening up and putting up points. During camp Di Giuseppe displayed some flashes of brilliance creating a number of odd man rushes with fellow prospect Brock McGinn. McGinn and Di Giuseppe had some chemistry on the ice and we could see them both on the roster next season, but Di Giuseppe has to start making quicker decisions on the ice in order to make an impact in the NHL and use his size more effectively in the corners. – Andrew Ward
April 2013- Phil Di Giuseppe was a natural a goal scorer in the OJHL and he continued to show his nose for the net in the NCAA. Playing in a checking role his freshman year, Di Giuseppe still managed to put 26 points up for the Michigan wolverines in 40 games. Di Giuseppe has fantastic hockey instincts and seems to see plays before they happen. He reads offensive opportunity very well and is an excellent playmaker, and is great along the boards. Di Giuseppe has a sneaky release giving him a shot that’s quick and hard to stop. He is a large power forward who isn’t afraid to drive to the net take a check, and has tons of room to get bigger. While he does have great hockey intelligence, his defensive game could use some work and he tends to get himself in trouble, especially when facing top scoring lines.
Potential second liner who is transitioning well to the pro game. With the right linemates he could surprise.
