Observations:
July 2016 – Morrow signed a one-year, one-way contract with Boston. The one-way contract suggests Morrow will see significant time in the NHL this season, however, it also isn't exactly a bid of confidence for the young defender. Morrow had the worst possession numbers on the Bruins' blueline last season albeit in a rather small sample size. Michael Drover
June 2016 – Last season Joe Morrow had his first extended look at NHL time, and as expected, the offence was not yet there. Registering just one goal and six assists over 33 games played, Morrow still has a long road ahead of him before he becomes a go-to guy on the Boston powerplay. Still, Joe has a strong skill-set and has the strength and size required to be a successful NHL defenseman. Morrow is a smooth skater with a decent shot and above average playmaking abilities who projects as a top 4 defensemen on the team in the near future.
September 2015 – Now 22, this may be the year that Morrow becomes a full-time NHLer with the Bruins. Claude Julien has said that that Morrow could earn a top-six spot in training camp – we wouldn't bet against him. Don't expect him to be a big scorer right away, but Morrow has talent and should grow into an offensive role. Michael Boeckler
November 2014 – In his 12th game of the season with the Bruins, Joe Morrow scored his first career NHL goal and point versus the Pittsburgh Penguins. Morrow logged just over 15 minutes of ice time and finished with a plus-2 rating. The Bruins are high on Morrow and the young offensive defenseman should continue to earn more minutes eventually becoming one of their go-to powerplay options. Brendan Ross
November 2014 – Joe Morrow has finally made his NHL debut, three years after being drafted in the first round. A spate of injuries to the Bruins' D gave Morrow the opportunity, and coach Claude Julien has said he's impressed with the confidence Morrow has shown in Boston. Morrow shouldn't be on your fantasy radar – at least not yet. Michael Boeckler
July 2013 – Now traded in the blockbuster that sent Seguin to Dallas, Morrow will land in Boston with a chance to fill a roster spot right off the bat with Boston. Depending on Krug's showing, Boston now has a legitimate offensive-minded defenseman ready to fill a depth role and possibly play some minutes on the power-play. Boston will give Krug and Bartkowski the first opportunity to fill the void created by the departure of Andrew Ference, however. Samuel Chretian
July 2013 – Joe Morrow has been dealt for a second time in his young career as part of the Tyler Seguin-Loui Eriksson trade involving seven players. Morrow joins a Bruins system that boasts defensemen such as Dougie Hamilton and Torey Krug. Brendan Ross
May 2013 – Morrow has been working with Texas Stars Assistant Coach Doug Lidster to improve the defensive aspect of his game. In the short time they worked together Morrow credits Lidster for making him feel more comfortable in the defensive zone no matter the situation. Patience will still be key for all involved as Morrow's game improves, he's still a ways off from full time NHL duty, but when he arrives look for him to make an impact. Rex Doty
March 2013 – Morrow has been traded to the Dallas Stars for Brendan Morrow. The Penguins are very deep on defensive prospects, and Morrow would have had a tough time gaining time with the big club. This trade enables him to do just that, showcasing his skills until a pro opportunity arrives. This will end up as a good trade for Dallas. – Seth Brisendine
March 2013 – He is trying to adjust his game with the transition to pro this season since he is now dealing with bigger, stronger forwards and he is no longer the big man in any given game. With only 15 points in 55 games thus far, he is below expectations but this does not hurt his potential. The wait may be a bit longer than an owner may like, but keep holding him or looking to acquire him. Jason Banks
June 2012 – Morrow capped off his 4 year WHL career with the Winterhawks by putting up 64 points in 62 games. He then added another 17 points in 22 playoff contests as Portland again fell just short of reaching the Memorial Cup. Morrow has signed an entry level contract with the Penguins and could push for a roster spot in Pittsburgh next season. If he doesn’t make the NHL out of camp he will play for the AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton next season. Todd Poole
February 2012 – Joe Morrow is having another strong WHL season which has seen him produce at a point per game pace for the Portland Winterhawks. In 49 games this year he has put up 49 points including 14 goals. Morrow surprised the hockey world when he almost stuck at Penguins camp earlier this season. His mature, offensive, game is exactly what the Penguins preach. To help his cause even more, Morrow has shored up his defensive game and will get another long look at being a full-time NHL player when camp breaks next September.
Poised and smart offensively. He's taking his time to justify being drafted in the first round.
