Weight: 211 |
Born: 1992-05-18 |
Hometown: Mora, Sweden |
Drafted: 2011 by New York Islanders, 125th overall |
Observations:
May 2016 – In his first season away from the Islanders’ organization, John Persson scored 12 goals for Farjestad in the Swedish Hockey League. His current contract with Farjestad runs through the 2016-17 season. Brent Craswell
May 2015 – After stagnating at the AHL level and getting passed on the depth chart by several players, Persson elected to sign to play in his home country of Sweden. Now 23, it's unlikely he will be back. Dobber
October 2013 – Persson was one of 15 players assigned to Bridgeport at the conclusion of the preseason. Persson will continue to develop on a talented Sound Tigers squad. Brad Wilson
March 2013 – Persson has adapted well to the pro game thanks to his NHL size and strength…Will never be a top sixer, but could carve out an NHL career on the third line if he can become more physically involved. He seems to be trying to be more of a skilled scorer, but he just doesn't have the right tools in the toolbox. Dobber
April 2012 – Persson is a solid winger that has a pretty good scoring touch. He put up 58 points in 70 games this year for the injury-riddled Red Deer Rebels. With his junior team missing playoffs he was called up to the Islanders AHL affiliate in Bridgeport where he has made an immediate impact, with 5 points in 8 games. He will have to work on his skating if he wants to make it to the show. He should skip his 20 year-old season in the WHL and go pro with Bridgeport full time next season. Zenon Herasymiuk
Fantasy Outlook: D-
Persson has left for Sweden and may be gone for good. He never showed much in terms of offensive upside in North America and, unless something changes drastically, there is no real need to keep tabs on him.
