Observations:

February 2016 – Alex Guptill has been traded to the Sabres along with teammates Eric O'Dell, Cole Schneider and Michael Sdao in a seven player trade between Ottawa and Buffalo. Jason Akeson, Phil Varone and Jerome Gauthier-Leduc are headed to the Ottawa Senators. Guptill will likely stay in the ECHL, he was assigned to the Manchester Monarchs ECHL team on January 20th. Alex has five goals and five assists for 10 points in 14 games with the Monarchs. – Paul Zwambag

April 2015 – There may not be a Senators prospect that had a bigger fall from grace in 2014-15 then winger Alex Guptill.  As a piece of the Jason Spezza trade, Guptill was expected to come in an challenge for top-six minutes in Binghamton this season.  Unfortunately the former Michigan Wolverine standout has struggled in his first full AHL season, posting only 14 points in 55 games.  His frame and offensive potential project a player who has the tools to be a NHL player, but from the looks of this season it will take time if Guptill is going to reach the highest level.  With many of Binghamton’s forwards graduating to the NHL in the past couple seasons, the opportunity is there for Guptill to grow as a player and play quality minutes next season.  He will need to improve his game and produce in order to not be passed by the other forwards in Ottawa’s prospect group. Kevin LeBlanc

September 2014 – Alex Guptill will start the season in Binghamton. The Newmarket, ON native is a very interesting prospect. He’s a big body who moves really well through neutral ice and has a very creative, offensive mind. With lots of talent heading to Binghamton this season Guptill has a chance to put together a very promising rookie season in the AHL. He certainly has the potential to be a top six forward. Nathan Martin

June 2014 – Traded to Ottawa as part of the Jason Spezza deal.

December 2013 – Guptill ran his points streak to six games, tallying a goal as the University of Michigan and Ferris State tied 2-2 on Dec. 11. The former third round selection has 12 points (six goals, six assists) in 13 games this season. Clayton Bailey

April 2013- Alex followed up his 33 point Freshman season with 36 points in his  sophomore season, doing so in three fewer games. But it wasn't without it's share of trials. After amassing eleven points in the first 15 games, Guptill was benched for three weeks by coach Red Berenson over questions about his work ethic and practice habits. After returning to the lineup Guptill struggled, before catching fire and putting up 19 points in the final eleven games of the season. In spite of all that Guptill was once again the Wolverines top scorer.- Rex Doty

July, 2012 – Guptill enjoyed a successful transition from junior to college hockey, tying for the team scoring lead at Michigan with 33 points. He has excellent size and skates well for a big man, and plays with an edge. He has good offensive instincts and battles hard, but will need show a little more interest in playing defense once he turns pro. Guptill was named CCHA Rookie of the Year. Rich Dillon
