Observations:
July 2015 – Locke finished his first year of Canadian University with 15 points in 20 games played. It's not very likely he will ever play hockey at the professional level. Locke can be dropped in every fantasy league ever played in, no matter how large your minor league system is. Paul Zwambag
February 2015 – Eric Locke was drafted by Darcy Regier under the old regime in Buffalo in the seventh round of the 2013 draft. It seemed like a schrewd move with low risk and potential high reward. Unfortately, things can change in a split second and for Locke that change was for the worse. Incoming General Manager Tim Murray didn't make the former seventh rounder a priority and after Locke began the year in the AHL after another good camp, but not offered an opportunity to play he decided to look out for himself and do what's best for him. He enrolled at Canadian University St. FX in Halifax who coincidently are hosting the 2015 University Cup in March. Locke started off slow with the X Men, but he has rebounded nicely to finish the regular season with six goals, nine assists and 15 points to go along with a plus-five rating in 20 games played. This move may seem puzzling as it pushes him further away from an NHL opportunity he's doing what's best for him and his future while keeping his pro options still open at the same time. June 2014 – What every coach wants to see is for his players to continuously improve. For Eric Locke that’s exactly what he has done. It took his third team and fifth season but in 2013 he broke out in a big way registering a career high of 97 points in 68 games played. His 44 goals , 53 assists, plus- 37 rating and 84 penalty minutes smashed his previous career highs, surpassing his three previous seasons’ combined totals. Buffalo took a chance and drafted Locke after his breakout campaign betting that his breakout wasn’t just a fluke. Locke returned from Sabres’ camp and picked up where he left off notching 60 points in 48 games, proving to be dangerous in all situations scoring six shorthanded goals. Locke has the shot, work ethic and hockey sense to make it at the next level and is one of only a handful of prospects close to cracking the Sabres roster soon. Keep an eye on Locke and how he produces as he graduates to the professional ranks this upcoming year. Travis Watson
Fantasy Outlook: D+
A potential 20+ goal scorer in the future who possesses a deadly shot that he can hit for both accuracy and power. Will still need to prove that he can contribute at the same level despite playing against a higher quality of competition.
