Drafted: 2007 by Phoenix Coyotes, 123rd Overall |
Observations:
May 2015- For a second season in a row Goncharov played in the KHL for Omsk Avangard. He has showed no interest in coming back to play for Arizona or even in North America. Keith Duggan
February 2014 – After two unspectacular seasons in the AHL, this past summer Goncharov went back home to Russia and signed to play in the KHL. Still a restricted free agent, he will turn 25 this summer and with a glut of defenseman in the Phoenix organization, its doubtful Goncharov will be back for the Coyotes or even playing in North America. Keith Duggan
May 2013 – His offense has continued to be an issue, though it has bounced back from a terrible 2011-12 season. His plus/minus continues to be terrible on a team with a plus-10 goal differential. An interesting development this season is the proliferation of penalty minutes with 2.5 a game this season (with only one fight) compared to an average of around 1 a game for the past five years. Though his penalty minutes may be appealing to some, his development has stalled and those same penalty minutes will limit his chance of making the NHL. Ryan Goddard
April 2012 – Goncharov is a big, physical defenseman with good mobility. There isn't a lot of room for young defensemen in Phoenix, so Goncharov has his work cut out for him. Ryan Goddard
Fantasy Outlook: D+
Though there is still time for a turnaround, at this point his future in North America seems grim.
