Observations:
September 2014 – Unable to convince Tampa Bay to sign him to an NHL contract, Costello settled for signing with their AHL affiliate the Syracuse Crunch. He should not be on your fantasy radar at this time. Randall Buschmann
June 2014 – Jeff Costello was traded to the Tampa Bay lightning. His rights expire on August 15th, as he has finished his four years at Notre Dame. This year, he scored 13 goals and nine assists in 40 games in a tough Hockey East conference. He is a physical forward and as captain of the Fighting Irish, he leads by intimidation; he agreed that he would, metaphorically speaking, tear someone’s head off if they weren’t listening to him. Costello does well on the penalty kill, goes to the dirty areas of the ice, and took two penalty minutes a game this year. His 13 goals and over three shots a game point to a bit of offensive upside, but he is likely to be a depth winger if he makes it to the next level at all. Austin Wallace
Fantasy Outlook: D-
A potential depth winger, he could make the NHL in a fourth line role within a year or two. Won’t provide a ton of offence, but might be a good source of PIMs, hits and blocks.
