Observations:

April 2014- Marek Tvrdon was a point-a-game scorer for the Kelowna Rockets since coming by way of trade from Vancouver at the WHL trade deadline and helped lead to the team to a franchise best 57 win season. Ultimately it wasn't enough as when they needed him most he wasn't able to produce putting up a mere two assists as the Rockets succumbed to perennial contenders, the Portland Winterhawks in five games. Tvrdon ends his whirlwind season in disappointing fashion which saw stops in three different leagues the AHL, ECHL and where he ended his year the WHL. Ending his overage season and junior career without a Memorial Cup appearance it should make him more hungry and motivated coming into camp this summer. He finished his time in Kelowna as the fourth highest scorer on a per game average in both the regular season and playoffs with 0.93 scoring average and will look to bring his scoring instincts to Grand Rapids next season where he will look to build on his junior success. Travis Watson

January 2014- Tvrdon's rights have been traded by the Vancouver Giants to the first place Kelowna Rockets in the WHL. Kelowna leads the BMO CHL Top 10 rankings and seemed to have found themselves a counter punch to Portland's acquisition of Matt Dumba with Tvrdon and hope for his previous success of over a point-per-game to come with him. Detroit is expected to release him to Kelowna as they view the Rockets as a better fit to help Tvrdon in his development and were reluctant to previously release him to the Giants because of their slim chance for championship success. To date, Tvrdon had been skating with Detroit's ECHL affiliate in Toledo where he had posted eight goals, three assist and 11 points in 19 games played. Travis Watson

July 2013- After having his 2012-13 season come to a crashing halt due to a blood clot in his left shoulder, Marek is itching to get back on the ice and prove he is healthy and ready to go. Tvrdon will be back out on the ice lacing it up in Traverse City for the Red Wings development camp from July 10-15th. During the 2012-13 campaign, Tvrdon still ended up finishing 7th in team scoring despite only playing in 18 games and was the only plus player on the entire roster. The Red Wings are hoping Marek is able to come back and play at the elite level he was playing at prior to the injury and battle for a top nine spot in Grand Rapids. Travis Watson

November 2012 – Tvrdon was off to a hot start in the 2012-13 season with 22 points in 18 games for the rebuilding Vancouver Giants. Unfortunately his season has come to a startling halt as he had to have surgery for a blockage in his left shoulder. The injury will end his season, but he is expected to fully recover and continue his hockey career next year – Zenon Herasymiuk

July 2012 – Has officially signed his three year entry level contract. He is eligible and of size to play for Grand Rapids, but may be re-assigned back to Vancouver WHL, to continue development and allow his contract to slide for a year.  Jason Banks

June, 2012 – Marek Tvrdon is a big power forward with good hands that one day can fill the roles currently occupied by Johan Franzen and Tomas Holmstrom in Detroit.  He has all of the tools to be a good presence around the net in the NHL but like other Red Wings’ prospects he is several years away from getting his chance to shine.  This past season he potted 31 goals and 74 points in 60 games for Vancouver of the WHL. Look for him to spent one more year in the WHL followed by two or three years of AHL development before beginning his NHL career on a depth line in Detroit. – Eric Daoust

April 2012 – a big rangy forward that uses his size and skill in combination to wreak havoc on opposing defenses. He lacks the speed and physicality to be completely dominant but it looks like the Red Wings may have stolen another European late in the draft. Tvrdon scored 74 points in 60 games for the Vancouver Giants and also scored four points in six games for Team Slovakia at the WJC. Not NHL ready quite yet, so he should be back in the WHL next season. Zenon Herasymiuk

Fantasy Outlook: C

Solid size and skill, needs to get more physical.
