Observations:

January 2015 – After bouncing around the American Hockey League, most recently Norfolk, Yann Danis signed a professional try-out and joined the Hartford Wolf Pack. The 33-year-old goaltender has yet to plant himself into an NHL depth chart so there’s no point in chasing him as a viable option in fantasy leagues. Brendan Ross

February 2013 – Started the year with Edmonton out of camp while Nikolai Khabibulin was still nursing his injury. He posted 40 minutes of shutout hockey in a relief appearance or Devan Dubnyk, but has now been re-assigned to Oklahoma City with the return of Khabibulin. Danis’ AHL numbers have been somewhat disappointing this season, but much can be attributed to the style of play ‘OKC’ plays as they are not the most defensively responsible team and rely on offensive output to win games. Jason Banks

October 2012 – Danis is a mature prospect, but he is still a notable goalie on the fringe of the NHL. He has 50 games of NHL experience with Montreal, Edmonton, New York Islanders and New Jersey. He has posted solid numbers at every level he has played, starting in NCAA at the age of 20. Three years ago he showed his NHL capable talent while being an injury replacement for the Islanders and then playing excellently as a seldomly used backup behind Marty Brodeur. In the past, Danis has lacked consistency in his game and has not shown dominance in the crease, but he is a very capable option on many nights. Last season, Danis won the AHL’s Goalie of the Year award. When the NHL resumes, he is likely to find a spot on Edmonton as they need a bridge goalie behind Devan Dubnyk, and there are no guarantees in veteran Khabibulin anymore. He will continue to be a backup and/or depth goalie for the rest of his career but he does have fantasy value in deeper leagues as a backup.

Fantasy Outlook: D+

Unlikely to secure a starting or platoon job at this stage of his career, Danis should post respectable numbers when he gets the opportunities.
