Observations:

June 2014 – While playing the majority of last season in the AHL, Carey got his first taste of the big leagues. He played in 12 contests with the Avalanche, but failed to record a point – although he did finish the regular season as a plus-two. He also played in three playoff games, but again, failed to obtain a point. Before this, in his second full season in the AHL, Carey was able to muster eight goals and 13 assists in 54 games. He’s an RFA this off-season, but expect the Avalanche to offer him another contract. He is on the verge of turning 26 years old. The time is now for him to make a legitimate impact in professional hockey. If offered another contract, he’ll likely spend most of his time next season in the AHL, with potentially another chance at producing in the NHL. Carey is an excellent stick-handler who can help offensively. He just needs to produce more consistently. Chris Bagwell

March, 2013 – Not a bad pro debut for Carey, as he’s looking like he’ll reach the 20-goal mark in the AHL…Hasn’t stood out enough to warrant a call-up, but not completely out of the question that he gets one before the season is out. – Dobber

August, 2012 – Carey is a slick pivot with good hands and decent size. He possesses strong offensive instincts but little defensive awareness, and needs to improve his positional play without the puck. Carey completed his career at Boston College with 45 goals and 41 assists in 147 games and being named to the NCAA Frozen Four All-Tournament Team for the National Champion Golden Eagles.  The Avalanche will give the nifty stickhandler a chance to prove himself in the AHL, but there are several forward prospects ahead of him.

Fantasy Outlook:  C-

Not a top prospect, but if he makes the NHL it will be in an offensive role.
