Shoots: R |
Height: 6-1 |
Weight: 200 |
Born: 1988-10-14 |
Hometown: Lethbridge, Alberta |
Drafted: 2007 by Atlanta Thrashers, 67th Overall |
Observations:
March 2014 – With Pittsburgh continuing to try anything to find cheap wingers from pretty much anywhere, Machacek was dealt to a team that gives him his best opportunity to date. He has responded to his new environment with eight points in nine games. He is still remains an outside candidate to break into the NHL, he did pop nine points in 13 games for Winnipeg in 2011-12 and his surroundings would be much better should he be recalled. At 25-years-old his window is quickly closing, but the Pens have given Brian Gibbons his opportunity who has just turned 26. Jason Banks

June 2013 – After being dealt in an exchange of floundering prospects to Columbus, he took off in the AHL compiling 14 points in 18 games as a complimentary winger. He is currently a RFA, and the Blue Jackets will likely re-sign the 24 year old and give him an opportunity to fill a role in the lineup on the NHL’s fifth worst scoring team of 2013. He has possibility of holding value if he breaks camp as a multi-category producer, but until he makes it, avoid. Jason Banks
November 2012 – Machacek has struggled, along with the rest of the Ice Caps to open this season, after signing a single season contract with the Jets. Jason Banks
April 2012 – An aggressive two-way winger with limited offensive upside is the scouting report on Machacek, but the 23-year-old is finally proving to be a scorer at the pro level. In 58 games with St. John’s in the AHL he has 17 goals, and 30 assists for 47 points. He has also seen 13 games of NHL action and scored two goals, and seven assists for nine points. A smart and reliable player defensively, gritty and full of intensity. Peter Harling
Fantasy Outlook: C+
Machacek projects to be a solid second or third line winger with some fantasy value.
